What's goin' on, fellas.
I'm rather new here. Took a read through MJ's book, spent some time reading threads, getting the feel for an entrepreneurial life style.
Anyway, I'll keep this short.
I am going to implement a video game rental service that delivers games to and from your door. There are some competitors (like GameAccess) that mail the games to you and you mail them back.
In my area, Rogers Video, BlockBuster, all the game rental places have been shut down. Something I've noticed is people complaining about the rising price of games, how they can't afford them (yet still buy them), and how people miss just renting a game for a week, bang-bang, and then never see it again.
It goes something like this... I have $2000 capital, buy 25 games at $80 a piece (only the new ones - it's part of the brand I'm creating i.e. a sleek, simplistic, and modern feel to the brand, thus only new and modern games are required. Eventually as recurring revenue comes in, I update the catalogue)
Now, I haven't decided if it will be a subscription based company (think Netflix, but with game delivery) and I'd charge 8.95 a month for unlimited games, or if I should do it at 8.95 per rental.
If I go the unlimited route, 5 subscribers nets me $45 /month versus $45 for only 5 rentals, which cuts down on my driving time and gas because if it's unlimited, they'll want more games and I'll be driving around for free, basically)
That's about it. If you have a suggestion of a better way or different way I could possibly go about things, I would genuinely like to hear them.
I have a background in marketing so I can take care of social media, branding, brand feel, etc. that my competitors seem to lack. The biggest differentiation between me and those who already do something like this is the delivery time. I spoke to GameAccess on how long it'd take for the game to get to my house, they told me 7 BUSINESS days (they live in Montreal, Quebec and I'm in Vancouver, BC). Think of what I'm getting at like MJ's example of Domino's doing a "delivery within 30 minutes or it's free" thing, except I'll get the game to you the next day vs next week).
TL;DR $2000 starting capital, buy 25 new games at $80/piece. Charge $8.95 per game rental. Game is delivered and picked up from your home. Branding and marketing is a sleek, simplistic, and modern feel.
What I need from you is simply constructive feedback. What I can do better. What needs work. Possible hiccups I can avoid. How to make it more passive for me. How to save gas money. Or even if it's genuinely a good idea to go through with or not.
The $2000 capital is all the money I have in my account. I live at home so not too much an issue, but I'd like to know if I am deluded to think this is plausible to succeed.
Either way, any input is appreciated.
Cheers.
