I believe my Idea qualifies as fastlane but it has some problems that I am not sure how to deal with, just want to bounce some ideas off you guys.
My plan is a program for treating clinical depression through meditation and cognitive behavioural therapy, as well as proper nutrition and sunlight/exercise, it is similar in content to what a psychiatrist might prescribe if they weren't paid to push pills (the pills don't work). There are books with similar ideas out there, but my difference is that mine would be a very specific program telling the reader what to do every day, like a 30 day course with activities.
I believe my idea fits all the commandments;
Need: Depression is serious, the pills don't work, the need is obvious to anyone who has ever known a clinically depressed person.
Entry: The barriers to entry here are just the research, and writing the program, not everyone can do it, but somebody could if they were motivated and understood the issue, unfortunately I am not a doctor/psychiatrist, just a person that has dealt with it myself, so that may actually be a barrier if people only want to trust those with degrees.
Control: I would write the course myself, and sell it on my own website.
Scale: Plenty of potential clients with unfulfilled needs to reach, second and third editions could be made, programs or books from other writers could potentially be sold from the website. Seminars and consultations are possible.
Time: This business may always require my input but the writing only needs to be done once, may be difficult or impossible to sell though. Generally it would meet the commandment of time because it will just be information sold online and drop-shipped without too much labour from myself
THE BIG PROBLEM however is that depressed people have an extreme lack of motivation, oftentimes they feel so low they are unwilling to do things like exercise or focus completely on meditation. Any article on depression will tell you this lack of motivation is symptomatic of the disease. That is my major sticking point, I fear that people will not be willing to put any effort into completing the program properly, and review it poorly, leading to crappy sales and a failed project. Also I am not a doctor of any sort, I went to culinary school.
MY QUESTION TO YOU: Is this fastlane? do you think it can be pulled off? am I just nitpicking on the motivation thing or does it kill the whole plan?
Thanks fastlaners
