Wanted to post this video as I thought others might find it interesting. It initially opens up with discussions about tiny houses which leads to a discussion about urban planning and zoning etc. It echos what I have seen with cities with the most layers of bureaucracy often being the most expensive to build in etc. I also found the interview with the architect from Huston talking about his colleague in Burkley working on developments to be quite accurate and funny. His reference to zoning boards as a group of estheticians without training is comedic and often very true. I have seen first hand these discussions where a member of the board will flat out tell the development group, including professional architects and designers, that they does not like their choice of color or design for a building as if they are more qualified to make that decision then the market or the group putting up $100+ million to build it. In many of the major market cities where city planning is arguably overbearing the folks who are staunchly in support of what they do constantly complain how ridiculously expensive housing and rents are. Yet they fail to recognize there impact to those prices.
