Hello, My name is JB, and I am new here. I have been browsing for awhile but had not taken the plunge in signing up until right now.
I know of PhxMJ (The guy that started this) from a few web forums and Facebook. Although I don't know him personally.
Anyways, I live in Central Florida and work in the Real Estate Commercial Development sector and wanted to talk about myself and my story to right now. I saw someone else did a diary on their progress with 15K to invest, but my story is different. I have next to nothing right now and wanted to kind of chart where I am at.
I have a college degree in my field, which is a professional consultant field, but I'm not licensed. I have been working towards licensure for about a year and a half, but the tests are extremely difficult. It takes years of on the job training (6 yrs actually) and then you go in front of a board and tell them you want to sit for 6 exams. They then say yes we will gladly take your money, good luck, and I started the process of taking the exams, failing, paying more money, passing some, failing others. Ahhhh the agony.
So I am still about 6 months away from getting my license if I pass my next exams. I have one 3/7 and another one 3/16. So I'm studying studying studying.
Opening my own business in this field would be extremely difficult due to not being a licensed professional. So I am just killing time, making someone else rich off of my labor, until I get my license and go out on my own.
Anyways, Monday February 28th, I get the bad news that I didn't want to hear. A little background first. I work for a small business, four employees. Only person above me is the owner of the business, and I directly supervise the actions of two employees. I do almost all of the financial things of the business. I contact clients, have face time with them, coordinate projects, bring in new business, teach new techniques to the guys that work for me, research code requirements, so on and so forth.
So the news I didn't want to hear. Boss can't afford me anymore......
My plan shatters. All the promises that the boss had made me about us getting into a partnership once I get my license fade to the dust (The carrot in front of the donkey, me), and I can literally only think of very small things during the next few hours.
My two daughters, 6 yrs and 4 yrs old.
My wife of 10 years that we just celebrated our anniversary by going on a cruise to the Bahamas (Mother-in-law paid for it as an anniversary present).
My house.
My car. (It's just a Camaro z28, but it's special to me)

He once put up a post on facebook, quite awhile ago, that said something like "Why are you slaving and making someone else rich?"
So the wheels start turning and I sit down with my wife. She has her own business as a notary signing agent. Since 2008, that market has tanked. So the savings that we had built up dwindled to next to nothing. But always in the back of our minds was....... Once I get my license........ Just a few more tests........ Once I get my license.........
Very hard conversation, and the question, what are we going to do.
Without going into anymore details, cause I know this is getting long. I contacted my clients that I trust and explained the situation. Talked to a licensed professional in my area that I know and trust and work with on a subcontractor basis. Figured out our finances and figured we could survive on nothing for three months. So that's the deadline. Three months. We started our S-Corp, got all the paperwork filled out and sent off. Just waiting on the CPA now. Got into a contractual agreement with the professional to do work that I bring to him, so on and so forth. And I'm currently looking at getting another lesser paying job to help offset the loss of income.
All of this was done with little to no money at all. And I know that I will succeed, because failure isn't an option. I have a huge morale support crowd behind me, giving me words of encouragement, and clients are helping me get everything started and pointing me to do this, or not do that.
People that I didn't know could help me, are helping me.
I will try to update this post and let everyone know whats happening if anyone is interested.

I took nothing but hopes and dreams, and turned it into a business plan.
I have little to no money and already have a signed contract, with more on the way.
Don't take no for an answer, give your all, and you can do it.
