Hey everyone! I'm a 29 year old former police officer of 5 years, MBA candidate, and current 9-5er who started reading the book last night and have hardly put it down. After reading SO many other "personal finance" type books that regurgitate the same thing over and over, this book has been extremely refreshing and motivating.
I've had this nagging sensation for the past several years. I sensed that there is more to life than work, bills, and a short weekend. In law enforcement it wasn't so bad because, despite the long hours, I had many more days off of work than most (usually worked around 14-18 days a month max including off-duty jobs). However, now that I have moved to a typical Mon-Fri, 9-5 type job working for a large company, this sensation has set in more now than ever. And in a way, I'm glad for it because it is motivating me to learn more and push outside of this "normal" path I'm on.
My short weekends make me feel like a slave to a job where I don't feel like I'm being paid what I'm worth. No matter what other jobs I've looked into, nothing excites me, except the idea of making a little more money for the same time I'm already sacrificing. There are very few select companies I can conceive of working for that actually sounds interesting to me, and even then, my time is still given to the company. I'm realizing now that I want separation from the time/money trade. I want to get into what MJ calls the Fastlane.
In a society where most are brainwashed into the slow or mediocre paths, I have had a hard time finding people to connect with on this topic. I'm very excited about discovering this book, forum, and community of motivated Fastlaners who, like me, want freedom to enjoy life before we're old and broken.
Despite my current situation, I am extremely motivated and willing to take on projects that will help me attain the life I want. I'm hoping this forum will expose me to others who have gone on similar paths and provide some guidance.
Please message me anytime. I want to be active in this forum and make as many great connections with like minded people that I can.
