I know the Millionaire Fastlane is about money, obviously.
But it's interesting to me when I read the thread "What would you do all day if you were rich?" that most people don't want power.
That surprised me. Most people want to be retired. They want to do relaxation & hobbies all day. Everyone is entitled to their own dream life, but I find that kind of surprising.
I volunteer at a retirement community and all these people care about in their 80s is looking at their grandchildren on facebook. They are retired. They aren't contributing to society anymore. They are just vegging out essentially. They are relatively powerless. They are uninfluential. They are passive. They are out of the system for the most part. They obviously feel like they don't want to contribute to society anymore and that's their perogative.
But to retire in the prime of life? Really?
Become powerless before you have to?
To me, that's almost like dying before your time.
If you are rich, power could be running a non-profit charity. Or it could be running a message board helping people. It could be a lot of things, but it is always about influence. That's meaningful besides any monetary attachment to the work.
As an entrepreneur, if you have paying customers, then you are influential by providing value to them. As you grow your business, you grow your power.
Even if you aren't rich, I honestly think being powerful is better than being retired because at least you are creating something of value to others.
