So I'm thinking that in addition to studying animation and video games which is what I'm doing, I'm going to create a platform online that allows people to :
1) display their movies and artwork to potential employers to get noticed ( posting more than a few will require upgrade membership so I make money)
2) allow people to sell audios they've made in their movies, clips, 3d models like cars and trees that other people can use, special scripts and lighting they've made, etc to other people who need them. this already is in existence but my idea is to not only target animtors like other sites but also general filmmakers, photographers, and artists in general who want to sell their tools and works that they've made to help other artists ( or do I have to be a complete niche to succeed??)
3) network with others on the site forum
4) have tutorials to get you started on making models or films using after effects or 3d applications so people with no knowledge can get stared. And I figure the more value I add in this way the more people will show up
5) sell ad-space once it gets popular.
I'm also planning to use my knowledge of animation to create my own animated advertisements on my site so learning animation alongside of it ( doing what I love) is helping me. I will also be able to promote my own movie at the very first page in the form of a welcome/tutorial/this is what we do sort of thing but the character will have lots of personality and be engaging so people will keep coming back to see what he does next week or next month in his videos since he runs the site. Then assuming how popular my character gets it could lead into a series of its own online as well as sell merchandise ( or not). But in this way I can create massive value for millions while promoting myself as well on the front page. And when you go to a new page a new animated character welcomes you and leads you through the pages with new music in the background.
MY BIGGEST ISSUES WITH THese IDEAs ARE
1) having enough time to get good at my animations while making this site. I'm planning to spend my time 50 50. So I'll work about 7 hours a day on my animations and 7 hours on the fast-lane site.
2) I'm trying to do too many things on the site and should either focus on the asset store where people buy and sell or on the part where people are just trying to promote their own work to potential employers.
3) there's already sites out there that allow people to promote their work and sites that let people sell assets so mine has to be better ( but mine is different because of the added things it allows you to do. Refer to above.)
My original fastlane plan was to either start an animation school, aim for fame, start a studio, go into advertisements, or make video games for free and sell the game weapons and power ups sort of thing. But I've been attending animation shool and going to game conferences for a while now and seeing the sheer number of peoople doing the exact same thing is staggering and disheartening. My aim is animation and video games as a long term goal of 20-30 years but for more short term wealth of 4-10 years is this website.
