I feel it is time for me to try and give something valuable back to this forum.

At the moment this is perhaps the best thing I can offer.

Below is a guideline that I have developed myself that if used  rightly can help you to obtain a top class - top level domain for a much  lower price than otherwise possible.

I have tried and tested my technique and it is solid, however you will  still need to use a certain ammount of self analysis to seperate the  good from the crap. As you know, nothing valuable is handed to you on a  plate.

When you spend your time searching for one in the way I am about to  reveal, it can make you feel as though you are sifting for gold. Be  careful domaining can become addictive!

Try to hand register a one word .com or infact any type of keyword rich  .com and you will quickly see that the domains that you would have  ideally wanted are already taken. There is still plenty of scope to be  creative and get a hand reg but you will most likely have to settle for a  low value extension or a long winded, un rememberable .com.

There is a solution!

Each day there are tens of thousands of domain names expiring. Amoungst  these are usually lots of great domains as well as a couple of gems and  sometimes a star.

The process to identify gems[/U]

You are going to have to download a list of expiring domains names. How else would you know about these domains!

A good place to start and one that most people use is Namejet dot com

Don't start there. I have found a better one that will save you allot of time!

Then go to domains and click on a selected date of expired domain names

You can get about four days in advance plus days that have past. But  usually it is not really worth trawling lists from previous days, all  the good ones will have been taken already. Trust me on that I have  spend many many hours doing it! You may use old lists to identify a  niche domain that you are after, and you never know, there may be a gem  that has slipped through the net but your best opportunity is to look in  the upcoming pending deletes not the previous deleted.

So.

You download your list. In Excel format using the site I mentioned  before. You now have a list in excel format and it is going to save you  allot of time.

You can either do one of two things now. 

Spend hours upon hours reading down the list comprised of about 70,000  domain names. 99 % are worthless. Your eyes will roll into the back of  your head and your brain will explode before you get even one third of  the way down.

This is what you can do

Use some automated domain appraisal software. WAIT. Some of you if you  have any experience domaining are going to say. Automated domain  appraisal software is useless. MOST of them are! Some of them are  better than others and this is why you are still going to have to use  some experience that doesn't come overnight.

Estibot is perhaps the best known automated appraisal used by domainers.  If you use the free service you can appraise a whopping 5 domain names every 24hrs!!! That is no good is it?

For more  than 5 it is a paid service (and not cheap). I have found another one  that is free and works very well at picking out corkers.

An example. DomainAppraisal.net values the domain Limos.com as being worth 260,000 to 790,000$

So that means if Limos.com was hidden in a bunch of worthless domains it  would pick it out for you. The higher the estimated value the higher up  the list it will appear.

You can paste in up to 20,000 domain names at one time (depending on  your computer perfomance, mine does about 5000 before it crashes) from  the list you downloaded earlier.

Now. In a period of 24hrs. This service allows you to appraise 20,000 domains. Then you have to wait 24hrs to appraise again.

That is no good either. Because everyday there are over three times that amount that expire. What do you do?

Log into Hidemyass.com and use their proxy changing service to get  arround this loop! Each time you change proxy or ip you can do another  20,000 appraisals. Problem sorted.


Analysing the results and registering the domains is all  down to you. If you find a VERY good one. You can risk it and hope that  is drops (expires without being noticed by someone else) or you can improve your chances to obtain it using a dropcatching service such as Snapnames.com
