Today, I had assigned a project to one of the golf course employees. We are shut down for the week to overseed the course. I gave the employees some cleanup work to do during the shutdown.
This project was kinda tough, but not that tough. It was to scrape an old cork-board off of the plywood backing so that we could put a new cork overlay on.
Whoever glued this on in the past used liquid nails. They really slathered it on. I was using a 10 pound bar to scrape and that was even tough. To smooth, we were using wide putty knives. It was difficult to take off and was going to take a couple of hours.
I helped for a while and actually got a fair amount of the project done. He told me at one point that this was a really tough job. I passed along some words of wisdom that I had heard in the past, "Just keep scraping, don't let it kick your a$$..."
Once I thought he had it under control, I left to work on another project. When I came back later in the day, the job was not done. In fact it was just how I had left it!
The GM told me that the employee had been working on in for hours and his arms were tired. So, he sent him to work on something else.
That is a F*cking a$$-kicking if I ever saw one.
Kinda tells us why some people do not succeed.....
