Hi guys!
Me and some of my friends have been considering starting an e-com biz in Latin America - to narrow things down, most likely in Mexico, where I (and one of my friends) currently live.
We are hoping to gain some clarity by posting on on this forum, which is full of inspiring, experienced and successful people.

We see many opportunities here, and the online market is growing like crazy, but here are the main questions that we are considering right now:

1) What are the main opportunities and obstacles in developing ecomm in LATAM?

2) Anybody knows interesting case studies of companies triving in the market?

3) Does any of the forum members have any significant exerience selling online or/and building businesses in Latam markets?

4) We started thinking about it as we noticed that most of big markets look like they are totally underserved - if you look for many kinds of products on Amazon.mx or mercadolibre - the choice is often very narrow, while the prices are way too high.
That by itself presents many opportunities, but the question is, why is the market in Mexico, for example, so undeveloped?

Is it the bureaucracy? Or maybe the society is still too backwards or distrustful when it comes to internet/online payments use and it's super hard to create big brands here?
Or is buying straight from the US easier and cheaper?

All in all; do you think is it a good idea to build brands and businesses in an underdeveloped markets of LATAM, for example, or could USA and UE still be a better use of time and energy?

What is your experience?
