Hey Everyone,
My name is Rob, I'm 24 and from the Philadelphia area. I have been creeping on this site for the past 6 months. I have also finished reading TMF , and currently reading it again. Thank you MJ for writing this life changing book.
A little about myself. I went to Temple University where I obtained a BS in Mechanical Engineering. At TU I was required to take an Engineering Entrepreneurial class. The class and professor made me realize that I had just wasted 4 years of studying something that would not provide the lifestyle I want. My professor has become an idol to me. He graduated college and started a driving school. He lived in the building where he stored his vehicles for four yrs. He starved, but eventually turned it into one of the largest driving schools in the country. He now sells production robots and teaches for fun. He and MJ have convinced me that financial freedom is indeed possible.
More about my entrepreneurial background, or lack of it. My first little business was in the 7th grade, where I burned CDs from my computer and sold them at school. Since then, I have been flipping various quads, dirtbikes, jetskis, motorcycles, and cars. In addition, I also fix these types of vehicles on the side.(I'm a gearhead) However, none of these meet the 5 commandments MJ discussed. I have also grown up around entrepreneurs, or what I consider business owners. My father and his friends all have their own businesses and they all do fairly well compared to most individuals. I however have not made any serious moves, besides the slowlane path working as an engineer, which I hate. I refuse to spend a 3rd of my life in a 6 by 6' cube making other people wealthy. I guess I should also mention that I need to figure it out before I turn 26, about 2 years from now. I am not as healthy as I should be and need to have health insurance.
Anyway, I have learned a lot from this site so far and hope to keep learning. I will try to contribute any knowledge I can.
Rob
