This is somewhat of a rant but I'd like to hear the opinions of other "experts" in their fields.
So it's quite obvious that the money to be made selling a course on how to make money(be it Amazon, Ebay, Creating digital products, etc.) has many advantages over actually being involved in the business.
The pros outweigh the cons by a landslide:
Pros:
-no need for capital investment
-higher rate of success (when you tap into one of the three survival triggers such as "making money", you don't need to second guess whether what you're selling will sell)
-your students essentially become your marketers and word of mouth (marketing automation)
Cons:
-you have to associate your name with this on the web for the rest of your life
-you'll have haters (not a big deal)
Anyway, I'm involved in ecommerce myself and I see so many "gurus" launching courses and having massive success(some whom don't even have any track record of success). I know this because I can estimate based on the kind of traffic and social media response they get. This absolutely frustrates me because I could probably create a much better course and provide a lot more value. However, I back off the idea because I know that marketing an information product will require me to make extravagant claims and show screenshots of income, yada yada in order to be competitive and really make it sell. This is where my conscience kicks in and I start to say to myself "Do I really want to associate my name to a product I claim to easily make people money even though it is actually extremely difficult and I know that at least 50% of my students will not see the success they desire?"
My businesses are doing fine, but I'm definitely not on track yet to becoming a relatively young millionaire. I constantly see other people just launching free content on channels and marketing their own "make money online" courses through their funnel. To be honest, it makes me a bit jealous because I know that I can do exactly what they're doing and at least double my income, but on the other hand I'm constantly tirekicking the idea because of ethics, conscience and not wanting to associate my name with any "get rich quick" courses and products.
Can anyone relate?
