Hey everyone,

I have been reading/ thinking a lot about starting up a website that offers valuable content around an extreme sport I partake in. As I know very little about how profitable a niche can be, I wanted to ask a few questions.

The idea would be to offer valuable content to people wanting to get in to the sport by:
- Creating how-to guides and e-books
- Reviewing the best places to partake in the sport
- Reviewing the gear/ companies that sell gear
- Recommending the best business to take lessons from
- Interviewing pros via podcasts

I was thinking I could make money with affiliate marketing for the gear and possibly hotels near the "best areas to partake in the sport." The gear is pretty expensive being about $2,000 for everything you need to get started. I know very, very little about affiliate marketing, but it is a beast I want to conquer and I have been reading a lot about it in recent weeks.

There are roughly 500k searches regarding this sport per month and about 15k/ month for the sport's name. For instance, if the sport were "dirt biking," there would be 15k searches per month using exactly those two words. I found out that by adding "hq" to the end of the word makes for an available domain name (i.e. www.dirtbikinghq.com).

Questions:
- Are there enough searches to make this niche profitable and worth pursuing?
- Can you share how you have been successful with affiliate marketing?
- How else can I add valuable content to drive traffic to the site?
- Should I focus on one content area rather than the sport as a whole?
- Roughly how long does it take to see traffic and sales trickle in?

Thanks guys!
