Hey everyone,
I've been working on this website application for close to 2 years.
It's my first website built with Ruby on Rails. More like my 2nd, because I've completely re-built the entire thing from the ground up following the advice of a good friend of mine. He's making a shit ton of money (over $100,000/mo), and he's a seasoned developer, so I just follow his advice and have been for about 4 years.
However, now that my app is nearly usable, he's used it and he's saying I should rebuild it... again.. Not entirely, but to basically re-do the entire appearance, and then refactor all the code on the inside.
After 2 years of sacrificing my time with family and friends, I'm getting burned out. I'm 24 years old now I DON'T want to all of a sudden be 30 years old and beating a dead horse.
Rebuilding it AGAIN, at least in part, or focusing on things like the beauty of the thing instead of the core features that make it valuable... and doing it all alone.. all before I know whether people will actually pay for it.. Seems like such a terrible, terrible idea.
See, I'm the type of person that actually listens to advice from people who have the results to show for what they have to say. And I'm listening to my friend, and I'm going to do what he tells me to do. Although, I want the input of someone else who's built a successful website application, in terms of what I should focus on. If it makes sense to me I'll change direction or strategy.
My gut tells me to stop building. And go out and sell the idea and it's features to my customers and test the waters to see if they'll give me a deposit. See their enthusiasm...etc It seems like this is the best possible approach, and might at least somewhat increase the odds of building something people will PAY for.
I just want the honest, point blank, raw truth. I'll sign up for the INSIDERS thing JUST to at least have some input from real, successful, entrepreneurs.
