Hey guys,
So, time to stop lurking and start taking action, right? I feel like I have a feasible idea and am hoping to get some feedback from some of you as this is really my first entrepreneurial venture.
A partner and I would like to create a website that connects high school students directly with college students in order to facilitate questions, answers & ongoing mentoring. The way the website would work is that we would initially recruit campus reps from each college and then allow users such as high school students the opportunity to browse our site, find the applicable university, and appropriate student and then ask them questions based on their background and expertise.
Every user of the website, whether a campus rep or a potential student will have to create a profile in order to use the website at its full functionality. For a small fee, the high school student would send a question or batch of questions via the campus reps profile, asking what the university is really like from an INSIDERS’s perspective. In return, the student will receive a personalized video response, right to the student’s profile, with a detailed answer from the campus rep. Because of the payment aspect, we will need to set up an e-commerce style website that allows users to purchase credits with a credit card or paypal.
Eventually, we would like to have the ability to create a virtual marketplace for college students to post items to sell whether it is Study guides, notes, or personal creations (jewelry, clothing, etc)
We don't have any technical expertise between the two of us, so we will outsource the design and development probably on elance or odesk. Is this our best option?
With an e-commerce website like this, will this become too expensive to maintain? We are starting with a limited budget, but we would like to know whether a website like this is feasible or if it will be a money pit.
This is the gist of the idea...if you guys have any feedback or suggestions I would love to hear them.
