Hey, everybody, I'm 18 years old. After reading DeMarco's books, I realized that people start everything with the “why” and their purpose. And that purpose leads them to action. But what purpose did Musk, Zuckerberg, or the writer Joanne Rowling start with? Or those same athletes, artists, and singers. It's as if all of them didn't have the goal of giving “value” to people and likewise they weren't chasing money.
I feel at a loss, I realize it's like they were “doing just what they loved” but most likely that's not the case and I think more to their purpose. A goal to become a better soccer player (Like Ronaldo, he may not have loved what he did in training and he may not have loved spending 6 hours in the gym after training, but he had a goal to become the best)
It's just like all these people didn't have a goal to retire at 30 or not work a day. In my mind they wanted to find that job that they would dedicate 20 hours of their time to even if it didn't make money, or am I wrong? Using Rowling as an example - she said she just wanted to write, Gates said he coded, slept and ate. Does it all come down to our “why”? And is it just different for everyone or is there something different here? Help me, please. I'd appreciate it.
So, for example, one “why” would be to retire at 30 and not think about money at all. And for an athlete, for example, it's to be the best at it. Or Rowling's “why” would be to write for the rest of your life, or am I wrong?
