My name is Kyle, I am 25 years old, live near Seattle, and have suddenly found myself in one of the most exciting times of my life. Currently, I “work,” with my big brother in a small business that is taking advantage of the booming marijuana industry in Washington. I have nothing to hide, it is what it is, I’m not asking you to agree with it! While it is a lot of work on my end, it is still quite enjoyable compared to my previous endeavors. On top of that I have started studying TMF and it has really started to inspire me to seek all the missed opportunities in this world. I have hopped aboard the Teespring train for my first little hustle, and so far I have seen some success.

Before I get too caught up in what I am doing now, I just want to dabble a little more into the last 5 years of my life. Before all that, I was working long weeks for years at a popular (not THE popular) sandwich franchise. Started out making sandwiches, several months later a promotion to morning prep, several months again and I am a Person-In-Charge and helping to open a brand new location. It was everything a 20 year old could dream of (or at least this sad sap at the time)! At this point, I was working 4 days a week, 10 hrs a day and it was actually pretty enjoyable for an awesome $12.50 an hour. It wasn’t but months later, again, that I signed my first contract to get on the salary payroll and was promoted to Assistant Manager. I can’t remember what the annual salary was at that point, but it was around $27k plus monthly bonuses for hitting certain goals. Certainly great at the time! I continued to work hard in an effort to get the next promotion, and it was before I turned 22 when I finally got it.

Wow, the title of General Manager at the age of 22? My salary at this point went up to about $32k plus a bigger portion of the same monthly bonuses! I averaged 42k annually with the bonuses and salary combined while I was a GM. I spent almost 4 years total with the GM title, ran 3 different stores by the time I left and one of those was my companies first Drive-thru location. Needless to say I was good at my job, but it really didn’t take a genius to do it. Every year that went by, the more I began to see that it was killing me slowly and draining me of my dreams. The next promotion didn’t seem very desirable, constantly running from store to store “putting out fires,” longer days, and much more stress. At one point I had told my boss that I wanted to take that next step, but it wasn’t but a few weeks later that I retracted what I said and actually told him I was looking for my way out.

My brother has had his hands in the medical marijuana industry for years now, and I had seen his ups and downs. What I saw most was the operations potential to make a lot more, if only more time could be given to it. My brother was starting to get spread pretty thin, dabbling in different aspects of the industry while also recently taking on the role of Daddy. At the time I thought it was going to be as easy as trying to jump in, put in some hard work and get a cut of it all. What I didn’t realize was how much of an investment of my time I would have to put in in order to get this machine running at full steam. I ended up ditching the sandwich gig and got hired part-time as a bus boy at a restaurant with a friend of mine. My brother was unsure when, and how much we was going to be able to pay me but I took on the commitment with faith, I couldn’t pay my bills on faith though. The bussing job would be a fall back, just to make sure I had something coming.

3 months of putting in a lot of work had only gotten me $500 from my efforts with for my brother. My restaurant job was paying me pennies and it wasn’t enough to take care of my financial commitments. It was seriously hard to keep my head up, and stay motivated to devote so much time every day. Somewhere in the middle of those dark months I came across these forums, and the great book behind it all. It opened my eyes and started to motivate me to keep my options open, one more time. While exploring the forums I came across a multitude of Teespring success stories, and they left my jaw on the floor! Growing up I was always dabbling in graphic design, self-teaching myself photoshop, the fundamentals of Flash and also web design. I never new that hobby to be a money maker though. Especially being younger, the idea of being a successful artist didn’t seem feasible without a college education. It has been years since I have even owned a computer, let alone done any graphic design, but right in front of me was the opportunity I needed when in high school.

By now I was broke, with a new car, I owed my mother $200, still wasn’t getting money from my brother but still investing most of my time there, and my next rent payment was just around the corner. What the hell do I have to lose?

I picked up my fiancé’s out-of-date laptop, and downloaded a trial of Adobe’s designing software (particularly Photoshop and Illustrator). 30 days would be all i have to push out some designs before my trial would expire. Whats worse is that trying to work on the old laptop cause me to pull out my hair, its slow performance made it so hard to execute my ideas! Soon I find myself juggling my designing, with working at my brothers and as a bus boy. All I ended up doing was wearing myself thing. My first campaign was actually successful, yet by no means the big money. I had a feeling that it could definitely lead me somewhere though, so what did I do? I quit the only job that was actually giving me steady hours and paychecks, (even though it was < $1000 a month)… If you can’t tell by now, I am a pretty faithful person, and have put my faith into the success of my tee spring hustles.

Lucky for me, my brother finally came around with a BIG payment. It wasn’t money though, it was a brand new Mac Book Pro! I could’ve used the cash, but I know this new computer could make me more efficient and get me more sales! Now here I am, still very new to the Teespring, and learning more about the hustle every day from the many useful threads on this forum.I will start a new thread with my Teespring progress very soon, as I have already had some success! My first campaign raised nearly $400 with nothing spent on advertising!

For anyone that got through all that, thank you for lending me your time! I plan on using these forums to post different projects in the future as I want to explore it all!

Sincerely,

Kyle C
