Chapter 30 - The Commandment of Need, in MJ's new book really shed light on the success/failure of business start ups. So logical, yet so unrecognized by most of society.
I have heard about a couple of interesting businesses since reading that chapter:
1. A website that helps consumers lower their bills by informing them of cheaper places to buy their gas, cell phone service etc. The companies who gain new customers pay the website $50 - 125 per new customer. In this case companies are willing to pay for the service of finding new customers.
2. A guy in NYC who parks his secure van infront of two high schools and for $1/day/kid stores the kids' electronics (since they aren't allowed to have them in school). He earns $700/day. Apparently there is demand for that service.
Now, does anyone have recommendations about how to identify business opportunities? I would sure like to find a need to be filled and start up a business that adds value to society. I feel like I am making a very limited impact on the world working in a cubicle for someone else.
