I am currently developing an app and I have never developed anything like this and my knowledge is currently limited. So while searching for solutions for my coding problems, I was thinking at the same time about needs. The best place to start looking (if you have nothing) is in Maslow's Needs Pyramid. Maybe it will help you, maybe it won't. The lower you go, the bigger/more urgent the need. The physiological level, however, probably won't get you rich, since people on this level are fighting to survive.
On the love/belonging level, there is ALWAYS a need. Love, sex and connecting to others, no matter how crowded these areas are. Some people want to program. Some people want to read books. Some people want to look good, but everyone wants to love/be loved. There are tons of dating sites and they never change; alpha guys wanna have sex with chicks who say are looking for the one (mostly). It happened with POF. It happened with Badoo. And the same thing is happening with Tinder. And countless other sites/apps. They start as one thing but become something else pretty fast. The same goes with social networks. Facebook has become I-Live-A-Perfect-Life-To-Show-To-My-Friends. Twitter is I-Will-Make-A-Statement. Snapchat I-Will-Send-A-Photo-With-Text. Even tho you can do all of those things with a simple SMS or a Facebook profile, people just NEVER GET BORED to try new social networks or dating sites. You need to be more creative, but the core is always the same. Just my 0.02.
