Book: I am about 90% done with The Fastlane Millionaire, and am grateful for MJ for giving me a glimpse into the multi-millionaire mentality that makes these folks what they are. Having read stuff like the 4HW by Ferriss and The Black Swan, far from all of it was new to me, while another big chunk of it was just common sense or motivational rather than informational in character. But I'm certainly not complaining, to the contrary I think this was an excellent book and I wouldn't hesitate to give it a 5/5 rating.
About me: My current job is as a blogger and freelance journalist. So, slowlane, but not without routes to the fastlane, e.g. books. I will be publishing my first one this summer and there is already an audience for it in the form of people who follow my blog and journalism. I don't need any advice on that, at least for now.
Plan: That's not why I registered an account here, however. The reason I came here is that my dad lost his corporate job a few months ago due to downsizing (before that he was in academia) and, with only about 5 years left until he reaches pensionable age, we decided it would be better to start up a business in his area of professional specialization as opposed to trying to climb back up the corporate ladder. And if you want to start up a business you have to make today, today, as per MJ's advice, and to "start trolling business forums" (like this one?).
As we envision it, this is going to be a consultancy that specializes in modeling fire and explosions, and simulating various industrial processes (e.g. aluminium production). While it does not have scale, it does have magnitude, because a typical contract in this sphere is worth $50,000-$250,000. Just a few dozen of them and we're into millionaire territory assuming costs can be kept suppressed without sacrificing quality and reputation. He is going to be in charge as he's the one who actually knows all this stuff, but I will be helping out, especially with the networking and website design.
Conclusion: This is the lowdown. Any more would probably make it too detailed for the introduction, so I will post the rest - plans, possible problems, etc. - at a more appropriate section of this forum.
