I've been thinking almost non-stop about what I could possibly begin to do. So here is my initial thought process. Tell me if I am way off course:
1. Started off thinking about writing (fiction). I've got enough talent there (have won comps in long distant past). It's a great time investment in that once you've written a book you can sell it forever. However, almost all authors do not earn much (I know a few) and it tends to be a side-project for people who already have money. So... not out of the question, but onto more ideas.
2. I am really good at fine art. Some artists seem to make a lot out of their art. But I haven't done any drawing in years so I'd be cautious about this one as I have no industry knowledge and am not sure I would be confident enough to promote my own artwork.
3. I have an old lifestyle blog that brings in about $25 ad revenue a month. I don't do a lot with it. I could work on that. I'm at the mercy of finding traffic or branching out into affiliate sales, but both of those flout the element of control in cents (which I am still reading about, not finished yet).
4. Soap-making. All-natural products are in demand (and predicted to rise) and I could easily start this from home and see immediate return. However, on looking at this, although soap has about 60% markup it doesn't sell for a lot so to make a living (let alone more if scaling it), I'd have to be selling a LOT of soap each month. Or bath bombs. But again, same volume issue.
5. Candle-making. This is my favourite so far. The predicted market is set to increase over the next 10 years. All natural and aromatherapy artisan candles sell well and so do products related to HOW to make candles (courses, ebooks, etc). Markup around 50% and prices higher than soap. I live in a wealthy area with a lot of farmer- and craft- markets, so getting started would be straightforward.
6. Or, I revert back to my industry skills and build something. I can build a basic website with ease and have experience in design, social media promotion, and video editing (all useful skills for whatever I choose to do, I guess). But build what? A portal linking waste and waste services? The waste industry is massive and full of logistical issues. This one feels like a bit of a blind guess to me. Also, I've spent so much time online in the past I'm kind of disillusioned with it and it seems that without the base of social media traffic (which takes time to build), any project is going to starve from lack of oxygen because there are so many other people doing the same.
Merry Christmas all (yep, it's Christmas day and I am home alone because my kids are with their dad, so here I am trying to work out wtf I'm going to do in 2025!)
