Hey guys! This is my first post here! I've been lurking in the darkness for a couple of weeks now. It's been so motivating! I thought was about time I became a member as I'm going through the process of starting my first business. I also thought I'd take a moment to quickly explain a little about myself before asking any questions. If you're not that interested in my life, skip to paragraph 2, it's the start of the business stuff!
Before Feb I was the usual 22 year old. I would eat junk food until the early hours of the morning and carelessly drink most nights. But in Feb I decided to stop drinking, wake up at 5am and start going to the gym 6 days a week. During the transition I started reading books like Think and Grow Rich. I began to get seriously motivated to do more than just improve my physical self. I started to think of new ideas to start a business and work for myself. I'm nearing the end of my masters degree and the new life style has allowed me to nearly finish my research and dissertation almost a month early! Today I also landed my first freelance job on upwork (formerly oDesk) after being inspired by this forum.
Now, onto the business stuff! I've decided that I'm going to start writing about what I know! The industry that I've studied for years. The problem was, that during my time developing my skill, there wasn't really enough resources for me to get going. So, I've decided to start a website with articles directed at those trying to start off, It's a really popular area of study and hobby at the moment and I know the traffic potential is there.
Giving it away (Idea 1)
Now, I'm thinking of giving away for free the one things that I'm always searching for, and still spend time searching for! I've already designed around half of what I'd give away. Think of being an artist and giving away free paint and paint brushes to beginners! What do you think of giving it away for free in return for an email sign up? Should I maybe sell it instead? I think I'd rather develop a different product to sell through the email once I've got them hooked in. What do you think of this?
A Brand (Idea 2)
I also want to develop a clothing line through the site. Now, the niche that I'm in has this horrible condition. It's a condition that effects many people, some don't even know they have it! Theres also no cure as of yet. What I'm thinking of with the clothing brand is developing it as raise awareness brand, donating part of profits to researching for a cure. Which brings me to another question, with the website name, would it be a good idea to name it after the clothing brand? Or something more tailored to the articles and use it as a platform to sell the brand on/through emails?
I apologise for such a long post! I'm writing out a weekly list of things to do tomorrow once I wake up. One of which will include finishing my master dissertation! Whoop! I look forward to speaking to a few of you and thank you again for all the info over the last couple of weeks!
