Hello I am 21 years old and i turn 22 in August.
Im at a point in my life where i could use some advice because I'm not sure what i want to do. i have been torn in multiple directions.
I have been lucky enough to have met an amazing person at a concert a couple of years back, he is a 46 year old CPA and past management consultant who made millions by age 32. He is currently building a company that sell high end customizable furniture to Interior Designers and architects.
He has invited me to help him with this endeavor. He has made me the "Showroom Manager" at the first flagship location. where we are basically building the systems and business model, he has even given me the responsibility to write down all of the processes we have made for this businesses and document it on a online wiki. He tells me this is the rubber stamp to open up multiple locations. I consider this man my mentor, and i can tell he believes and sees something in me and has taken me under his wing, which is a truly amazing feeling. He has also mentioned that he wants me to buy in as partner of the company and get 10% of each location if i get in at the right time. But im torn. and hers why.
The company has yet to make a actual profit yet, and i am personally a little skeptical about the interior design market, it doesn't seem to be growing to fast. the business has only been in business for a year and a half now. He pays me 36k a year and when we do open up multiple locations, he would bump up my salary 12k more, to manage all locations. but this is going to be a 5 year adventure if i decide to go with it, and it could ultimately be a waste of time. and there is that option to be a partner in the business. But right now as it is with my current salary of 36k i can only save 15k a year. which is good. But i have also been interested in the maritime super yacht industry.
I know deck hands on a yacht make 36k a year, and if you work outside of the us for 183 days a year, that money you make is un taxable. also you dont have to pay for rent or very much food, in affect i could save 30k a year. and there is also the ability to invest in my self and move up to mate postions that make more. (about 40-50k depending on experience and vessel size)
So my question is from people who have more life experience than me and maybe have been in similar situations. what should i do? there seems to be great opportunity for me in both directions.
some cons of working on a ship would be being a way from family. and i would not be able to work on personal business ideas. which is something i do aside from my job as the showroom manager.
Just so you know my goal is to have multiple homes owned and rented out by the time im 30. Im also interested in franchising. Im willing to live now like no one else in order to live tomorrow like no one can.
