I am launching a multi-level marketing arm of my company to distribute a subscription-based newsletter I've created. Marketing is one of my weaknesses, which is the reason I have chosen this strategy. I want to market this as quickly and widely as possible so I can use the revenue as start-up capital for other business operations and retire from the rat race. Because of this, my MLM division will be temporary. This is an entry from the "jobs/careers" page on my website. I wanted to get some of your input to see what mistakes I can correct.

*The terms "XYZ newsletter", "Our Company", and "Our website" are, of course, generic examples of their true titles.*

Newsletter Distributor

Purpose: This position involves the marketing and distribution of The XYZ Newsletter. It is a subscription-based bi-weekly newsletter that outlines our company’s plan to eliminate poverty and the class system, employ millions of Americans in the industries of the future, help individuals find their calling in life, democratize financial freedom, and establish a free society and public good through individual achievement and ground-up economics.

Compensation: This is a commission-based position paying 20% on each subscription sold. Subscriptions to the newsletter are $15 per month. It would behoove you to subscribe yourself before becoming a distributor to gain a thorough understanding of the product. There are NO upfront costs, initiation fees, or administrative fees for becoming a distributor and never will be.

Our plan: This distributor position is not intended to be permanent. We DO NOT want you to rely on this position to make a living for the rest of your life. We want you to prosper in this position, and then quit, so you can do something else. If you choose to remain with our company as a distributor, then that is entirely up to you and works to your benefit on numerous levels. We are not promising overnight riches as a newsletter distributor. We are not promising to make you a millionaire, nor do we care if you become a top seller. Our purpose is to help you establish financial freedom—which has NOTHING to do with how much money you make, but what you do with the money you keep—so you can begin focusing on the most important resource in your life: your time. The idea is to help Americans get on their feet long enough for our company to help straighten out their financial lives so they can spend time on finding their purposes in life. Being a newsletter distributor will not make you financially free: all it does is provide residual income to you. When you are hired as a distributor you will become an independent contractor to our company and be automatically enrolled in our website’s free general education courses, which are organized by demographic. These are financial education courses that will teach you how to use your distributor income to pay off your debts, invest in assets that pay you more income, and generate what is called passive income.

Your goal as a distributor: Your goal as a newsletter distributor is to generate passive income that is at least 2 times your expenses. Do not focus on supplementing your current income (if you have it), focus on making your distributor income double what your current expenses are. Our goal as a company is to build your personal success not only by marketing and selling The XYZ Newsletter, and not only with the content of the newsletter, but through our prerequisites (general education courses). Your goal is NOT to succeed as a distributor, but to succeed in establishing passive income. It is OUR goal, as a company, to market this newsletter as widely and quickly as possible so we can begin solving our nation’s public and personal financial problems.

Overrides on commissions: As with any commission-based distributorship—also known as network marketing or multi-level marketing—you can build a downline for every new person you get to sign up as a newsletter distributor. For every sale each member of your downline makes, you make a 30% override on their commission. Example:

YOU sell 30 subscriptions @ 20% each = $90​

THEY sell 30 subscriptions @ 20% each = $90​

YOU make $90 + 30% of $90 = $120​

THEY still make $90​

Geographical Area: The XYZ Newsletter is available to you in PDF format through our website where it can be downloaded and printed at your will. If you do not have access to a computer, print copies of the newsletter can be sent to your mailing address per your request following your subscription. *We would like to minimize the amount of paper that we use for environmental purposes.* Our website is a virtual company, and therefore, allows you the freedom to legally market and sell anywhere within or outside of your geographical area.

What we do with our share of your sales: The XYZ Newsletter was created by our company’s founder Brandon Turner. Its contributors are private citizens and business people across the country whose expertise and knowledge are used in the company’s plan to rebuild the American economy from the ground-up and provide authentic financial education to the masses. Most of the distribution sales revenue at first will pay the contributors to the newsletter. Some goes into designing the free prerequisite courses offered to both distributors and regular students. Another portion will help engineer the certificate-backed programs (Click on the “Programs†link at the top of this page) offered through our website. The rest is profit.
