New to the forum. I have several topics for posts that I am interested in introducing but will start with this question that I have. I am a physician and entrepreneur. I own and operate a company. I have had a lifelong dream that I would like to see manifest. I want to start a horse and animal rescue. The question I have is how best to do this -- via a for profit or a not for profit platform? What is the difference/overlap between a "foundation, not for profit, and charity?" My motivation is to set up an organization that is a true charity for horses and animals but wonder how feasible this is to implement unless it allows me to partially support my salary directly through this activity. Many questions arise. For example, I will need to purchase land for the operation. If this is a not for profit organization, can I build a personal residence on that land? Any thoughts or advice? Thank you.
