If you had a free office to use anywhere in America, fully furnished, what would you do with it?
It's Saturday morning, and the kids are driving you crazy.
It's noon, and you have escaped from your stupid job for an hour and a half undetected.
It's 5PM, and you have a few hours of daylight left to burn on your own business.
You have a vacation day, a sick day, or a paid company holiday.
But... you don't have an office.
Or do you?
I am writing this message from my "branch" office. They give me free wifi (high speed), a free office, and all the free resources I could ever want.
I can go to any big city in America, and use my "branch office" for free. Hell, they even have free computers if I didn't want to bring mine. Maybe a better computer than my desktop, with free use of the latest publishing software.
If I really want a mind dump, I can grab a free copy of the Wall Street Journal from their shelves, and sit and read it. Hell, I am going to do this once a day. There is so much to learn here! Some guy said on the Fast Lane Forum we should be reading every day. Every day. When I escape from my office for lunch, rather than hanging out with my loser co-workers at Subway, I am coming here. Every day.
I like the free desk they give me. I like the free resources, and the comfortable chairs. I like the fact that anything I want to research is right here, at my fingertips.
Shit. This place just took away one more excuse that I had towards not navigating myself to freedom. Nobody owns me. I can work where ever I want. I can learn. I can study. When I was in college, I wasted time. Now I am an adult, and I am studying harder than I did in college. Funny how life works out.
edit: I really wrote this post this morning from a free desk, using free wifi, in an office they let me use for free, in my home town because this was more convenient this morning than going in to my real office.
