Say you died today (I wish not). I never desire to be morbid but this is a deep thought exercise I would like to share.
Your loved ones in cries.
They all suffer your loss.
Time goes by...
They can't stop thinking about you. Trying to hold on to whatever they can find that reminds them of you. Your mom grabs a scarf with your odor on it. Sniffs it.
Your friends try to reminisce whatever they can about you to make themselves feel better. They pass the bong around, they laugh, they cry. Man what wonderful friends you had! What a life you had...
Then, your kid brother pops on the internet. He googles your name and finds your fastlane forum handle.
And he finds your diary.
And he reads your posts.
You are sort of living through your words from that moment on. Part of your life you thought was never to be discovered.
When I read @Ubermensch post so passionately about Ayn Rand, it makes me smile that her legacy lives on somewhere on a server in which this site is hosted, through her books, through doctorate studies, through Nobel prize winners, through the ink that can go from inspiration to
Inspiration---> You --- > Words (multiplied by how much you mean them) ----> LEGACY (not in a self-centered way)
What are people going to read about you? What will the poets be singing?
I realized something lately.
Did you know that still today, all over the world doctors are required to take what is called: Hippocrates' Oath:
[...] Also I will, according to my ability and judgment, prescribe a regimen for the health of the sick; but I will utterly reject harm and mischief" [...]
[...] "Practice two things in your dealings with disease: either help or do not harm the patient"[...]
Police swear to serve and protect.
Noble professions these are and so is ours (problem solvers and value generators)
Each day these (OF COURSE THERE ARE GOING TO BE EXCEPTIONS!) noble people wake up every day
with one thing in mind:
Arresting as many criminals as they can. (they know some are going to slip by). They are competitive in good deeds among themselves.
Great camaraderie have soldiers and law enforcement officers.
Healing as many patients as they can (they know some are going to die). They have great endurance, most them can't even ENJOY their money so much they are addicted to aiding others. They see bacteria and they CRAVE to nuke that shit with antibiotics.
Firemen dream of extinguishing as many fires as they can. Preventing fires, they KNOW, not fear but KNOW how ravaging they can be.
Social workers want to take people (those we need it) out from prison and into boxing clubs, mosques and churches.
Getting our kids out from the street and intro libraries, swimming lessons, schools and academies.
We, on the other hand. Are in the matrix like everyone else (I'm NOT saying were are BETTER than ANYONE, WE will NEVER BE better NOR WORSE than anyone.) yet unlike most we are fully aware that some rules can be bent, and that others can be broken.
AND TRUST ME I GOT TO LEARN THAT SHIT THE HARD WAY. AND YES PART OF ME GOT BROKEN TOO IN THE PROCESS, BUT THERE IS NO GAIN WITHOUT SACRIFICE
Together and separately we find things that we believe in and pursue them with passion. At the cost of everything. That allows us to jump much higher and do backflips and shit like neo does at the end of The Matrix in the subway even though we can see the string.
(The string to me is somewhat relevant to life as if it were saying "There is no magic here. There's always a string though you can't always see it")
Sorry for all the images, it's really not a style of posting I am thinking of adopting rest assured I just thought It would be more efficient since they add one thousand of words each.
