I'm a non-programmer/web developer starting on my first real entrepreneurial venture. I've outsourced a few projects for my work and a couple of gee-whiz things to get a feel for hiring contractors on Elance.
On my mini-projects, I've noticed a tendency fordesigners who can build a nice front-end but don't know crap about building the guts and brains that actually make the site tick (databases, mildly complex forms, etc), or a programmer who can make something work but doesn't know much about making a site attractive and slick.
I've been digging through the forum looking for info before I started a new thread and while I've found some good stuff, I haven't found one that directly addresses the problem of getting the two to work together. Since I'm relatively new to this and still getting used to encountering programmers and developers in the wild, I'm curious to hear any thoughts and suggestions from the experts on here about getting the two to work together.
One of the ideas I was considering was a 99designs contest (I like being able to see multiple possible designs as they progress) to get the desired design down and then posting that on Elance for a programmer to look at and build a back-end to make it work. Anyone ever taken this route?
