Hello Fastlaners!
I have an idea that I've been setting up for a while now, which is exciting, but not fastlane. I'm looking for your ideas to perhaps make it even more effective in terms of income/profit.
My wife and I live in northern Japan, in a city of 2 million+, called Sapporo. We're building a house where we can live with college students who are interested in learning native English. It would be similar to a studying-abroad experience, but without all of the expenses, falling behind in school and delaying graduation. From the research I've done, it sounds like it won't be hard to fill the 3 rooms we are preparing for students. (For privacy and sanity, the house will be built like a 2-family house, with a connecting door that we can lock any time.)
I know it's not fastlane because it's strongly tied to my own time and input. If it worked really well, it is something we could multiply in the future if we found trustworthy families who could live with and care for the students as well, but acquiring an entire house isn't exactly simple/cheap. I'm also very interested in teaching English and helping people to learn more about the world, so even if I wasn't making money on it, it would be fine. Just thought I would throw the idea out there to you guys and see if you have any brilliant ideas!
Here's what we're thinking:
On top of the normal rent rate for the area, we would charge for a few meals together a week, plus the English conversation daily. Once or twice a month we will have hiking/snowboarding/movie nights or whatever. Furniture and utilities will be built-in to the price, for a bit of extra income for us long-term, and less worries of damaging the house from students moving stuff every year.
