OK, in trying to get my head around the size of the financial crisis (said to be up to $60 trillion in credit default swaps), I asked myself, "What is the size of EVERYTHING we do in the world?
The number I got is around $60 trillion:
World economy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Questions:
1. Is this accurate, or am I missing a whole bunch of stuff here?
2. If $60 trillion is accurate, then is the $60 trillion in credit default swaps in ADDITION to this number? Or am I comparing apples to lemons here? (I think I know the answer, but I'm hoping someone will be able to explain the difference).
3. If the global economy is ~60 trillion dollars, and we're looking at committing 1-2 trillion dollars in salvaging things, again, am I using the right comparison here, or are these things valued in a totally different way? Would "creating" $2-3 trillion globally (all countries combined) mean we'd dilute the value of things by 5%? ($3 trillion is 5% of $60 trillion).
Answers from those who know and understand this stuff would be greatly appreciated.
