Last month I built a program which could be used for lead generation. It would automatically reply to ads posted in the local classifieds where there is a HUGE amount of traffic everyday.
I'm soon starting a job at a car dealership and wanted to use that program.
So ideally the program would simply reply to ads with something like "Hi, I'm XXXX from YYYY dealership, I saw your ad and was wondering if you'd be interested in a trade in."
There's only one small problem with this...if you haven't already guessed it, this gets you banned.
After a lot of experimentation (and getting banned many more times), I've reasoned that it gets you banned not because it's a bot, or the amount of messages you send out or anything inside the message. It gets you banned because people report you.
If you mention that you're a salesperson from a dealership, this seems to piss some people off enough that they'll go out of their way to report you. It takes a very small amount of reports to get banned which is easy to do if you're sending out a really high volume of messages.
It seems that the only way to do this is to first start the conversation without telling them I'm a salesperson and then dig deeper into the circumstances behind why they're selling the car. If I think I have something good to offer, only then tell them I work at the dealership.
However, that seems really sleazy to me, I like to be honest with people from the get go. The other problem is that by digging deeper with every person first, I'll be investing a lot more time upfront before I know if I even have a chance which kind of defeats the purpose of the entire automation thing.
my next plan is to first ask them if they'd be interested in a sale/trade without mentioning anything about myself, ie "hey was just wondering if you'd be willing to do a sale/trade in with a dealership?"
However, I'm now worried that even something as innocuous as that might get me reported. Would be interested in hearing any thoughts on this or any way I could word the initial ad reply in such a way to get the message across without offending anyone.
