For April Fools day, Google has "released" their "Brain Search" which reads your brain waves, indexes your brain and allows you to search your thoughts so you never forget anything ever again (click on "try it now" from your cell phone and it will bring you to a 404 page).
They have also "released" other AI technology they call "CADIE", a Gmail Autopilot that they claim will automatically respond to certain messages and have also tweaked YouTube where the site is completely upside down once you click on a video.
My question, this likely took at least some time and resources to put together, all as jokes for april fools, what do you think is the marketing implications to this? Are there any benefits to these types of april fools jokes as far as increased usage of the site or their services?
Personally I don't think their joke about brain search really urges me to use Google's services any more than I already do and I think turning YouTube upside down only hurts the sites useability. It's somewhat humerous and I suppose it gets some people talking, but I'm still not convinced that the benefits to this will outweigh the costs.
