Been toying with a new business venture for months/years now, as my Photography business is more slowlane job than real business. Thanks MFL for sowing the right seed over a year ago.
One of the other books I read at the same time was "Brad Burton's get off your arse" (He's a brit Hence the title.
Another good book, but it wasn't until I decided enough was enough and gave myself a very hard slap on June 1st this year and a 8 year timeline to make enough to retire comfortably, when I'm 50, that I finally started moving.
I set some hard goals and timelines to motivate myself. I have done this previously over the years, but I don't know if others would agree, but it was different this time - Something clicked and I just realized, if I don't do this for real this time, I'm F*cked forever!
Weird, as I have read and listen to hundreds of business related material over the years and nothing moved me until I just flipped that switch in my own mind on June 1.
So, what did I do?
The wife laughed when I said "right, up at 5.30 every day now (usually time is 8.00). - Completed and continuing (although this week, new time will be 5.00a.m)!
I start the day with walking dogs, whilst listening to an hour of business/motivational material - Completed and continuing!
Committed to minimum of 5 additional hours everyday to finding and implementing new venture. Gave myself to July 15 to decide on and implement new business idea - Completed and doing both!
So, I cancelled the cable T.V straight away - The day before the world cup started too as I knew it would be a major distraction.
Spent a lot of time reading here and elsewhere and decided on new venture within 10 days. Worked feverishly on it, until I talked with @JackEdwards and although I'm still not totally ignoring that part (ecommerce and have started selling) Jack liked one of my other ideas better, So I decided to go full steam that way.
I have since done a lot of stuff that was completely new to me - landing pages, ebook implementation (this in't the business, side part to it), researched and worked on sales funnels, pitched idea to potential clients, worked with designers from fiver and elance, set up wordpress, hostgator, Aweber. Booked more call with Jack etc etc.
And you know what guys and to all who like me for soooo long were afraid to start something, in fear of knowing what to do - it isn't that difficult to start and keep going! And I'm enjoying it more everyday.
Tons to learn and I expect to fail at many things. But, one thing is for sure now - I can feel success already. It doesn't matter if this venture doesn't work, I will keep going until something does and with the support of this forum, I know it will happen and I can clearly see that the road to riches (not just financial) is possible with the "right" hard work
If the next stage goes to plan, who knows, maybe a progress thread.
Cheers for all who have answered my questions to date and to those who will be answering my many more to come
