Hello! I have been lurking here since late last week reading some of the posts and threads and thought i better show my face!
Well here goes...
I am 21 years old (22 in March) I have always been interested in computers how they work, what people can do on them and how they are built.
but i also liked to be creative too... making things in photoshop following tutorials i found on the internet.
this eventually led me to a path where i found my calling in web design so eventually after two years of college and finishing in summer 2008 i thought.... hey great now i will just walk in to a job..... right?
Wrong.
"sorry you need one years experience"
ahhh i thought il just do contract work that will be easier right?...right?
"sorry you need one years experience before we can put you on our books"
Right....
So how am i sussposed to get experience if noone will give me a break...?
After being unemployed for 6 months people's comments and assumptions that you are lazy because you don't want to take a crappy retail job left me broken and quite depressed. heck i didn't even wanna work for anyone else.. deep down i wanted my own business..but if someone offered me a job sure id take but only if it was in web design because i saw the bigger picture... id work for a year then go out on my own...the perfect plan...
so in December i had a interview( my first ever) for a web design job GREAT yes someone is giving me a break! it was part of a government scheme to help young people who have been unemployed for a year, the government pays for 6months of your wages and if the employer takes you on they then take care of the rest they knew young peoples situations ( lack of experience ect) the job sounded perfect! the interview went quite well...
"we will let you know in the new year!" great!
Then....
"We, we will not be able to offer you a job"
sigh....
i thought that was it... i just wanted to work.. earn money... but then i found this forum after reading success stories such as LondonLife's, Caesarion's and PHxMJ's i thought... wow id never thought of being a millionaire...just earning £50k would be enough...right? I mean if i was a millionaire. i wouldn't work nah... that would be boring i said.... why would i want a fast car? you cant even drive fast in London without getting a ticket! ( how i knew that id never know because i can't drive!..ha!) i mean how would i even become a millionaire designing web sites? so many questions but lurking in this forum has just made me want to become a millionaire...i know funny isn't it..... i started looking at houses on the internet and thinking....why shouldn't i have a nice house and a nice car why shouldn't i have so much money that i can just you know... live life.....?
But first things first...
Goal 1 find clients to earn money.
I haven't even got a portfolio site up..that's right a web designer with out a portfolio but that's my fault who knew job searching was a full time job!
once i get a site up with a blog twitter ect ect i hope this will help attract clients ( i know not fastlane but i didn't even know what fastlane was until i came across this forum so i hope people can help me come up with ideas i have a few which i will make threads for)
I feel this is my first step to wealth!
Thank you for reading :smx19:
hope to be posting a lot on here!
