It's been a LONG while forum... I've been gone for so long. But it's because I have been incredibly busy. In addition to the story I am going to share, I have been building a B2B software company in the web solutions niche. Anyhow.. here we go!
----------------
In January of this year, I decided to test myself. I was feeling a lack of focus/drive and wanted to get back into the swing of things. I made the goal to create a business and grow it to $2500/month within 6 months. I also set 2 rules:
- I was only allowed to dedicate 1 hour per day to it
- I had to start it using under $100
I chose a crowded but growing niche; one that most advised not to waste time with. This niche is: bohemian fashion. Below is how I setup the business, and how I grew it. I hope this is of some value to all of you fellow entrepreneurs.
1. Decide on a product/service
Since I chose this HOT but very competitive niche, I made it a priority to try and create a unique brand. I targeted the more "budget friendly" side of the market as well. After doing some research, I found that my competitors were either offering really basic designs, doing terrible or NO marketing, and sometimes a combination of both. From that I made the decision to offer higher quality and more unique designs, and focus on printing them on higher quality garments.
2. Build out operations
Since I limited myself to 1 hour per day and basically no capital, I knew I would not have the time or money to buy equipment and print shirts myself. I also didn't want to deal with that anyway.
So, I did some due diligence and after a few days and multiple conversations chose a company to outsource production/fulfillment to. They offer a huge variety of garments, and their price were the lowest of all companies. I also talked them into giving my company a $2000 credit limit (net 30) to work with, which really helped!
3. Choose a sales channel
I was really tempted to start with Shopify for ease of setup, but for some reason I chose to build my own website, blog AND open up a store on Etsy. I went to Etsy simply because the market I am serving was already there, and buying competitors products, which would end up making marketing easier. I built my website, and created my Etsy store in less than a week. Now I just had to fill it!
4. Design. Design.. Design...
I had to create designs myself, since I didn't have a budget to work with, and thank goodness I have Photoshop and Illustrator experience. So this part was easy. I based a lot of designs off of designs that were ALREADY WORKING (key) for other sellers.
Then, I realized this could get A LOT easier... I came across 2 resources (websites) that allowed me to get pre-made designs for my shirts that were both very high quality and unique to my niche. I will share these resources with anyone, but you must send me a PM.
5. Selling and marketing (aka the hustle stage)
I actually found this to be very easy, thanks to some more resources I discovered. I also have experience with Instagram and Pinterest that made my job a little easier. But these resources I found made marketing A LOT easier.
I don't have a ton of time to explain, but my strategy for marketing literally only involved Pinterest and Instagram, and I only spent a total of 20 minutes per day to do all the work I needed for both channels to make a huge impact on the growth of my business. Again, please PM me for details on the resources. IF i get a big enough response for these resources (like 25+ people) I will just share them in the thread.
6. Growth & the present
Thanks to making this business a passive as possible, and utilizing some amazing resources, I was able to grow this business from 0 views and $0 in sales in March, to selling over $3200 in July. I am now on track to clear $4000 for August and it'll keep growing faster and faster.
This brings me to the present moment. It is August 7th and I actually have this business up for sale, on Flippa. It's brought me some great cash flow and is continuing to grow fast, but like I mentioned in the beginning of this post, I have a software company and my business partners (1 is a very very successful entrepreneur) need my full focus and attention on that company.
If you are interested in checking out the listing, or even buying this super passive cash flow business and quick growing brand from me, just (removed).
Thanks all! Please feel free to ask me any questions about my progress. I know I didn't hit everything..
