For many countries (more than 9 world wide), "Labour Day" is synonymous with, or linked with, International Workers' Day, which occurs on May 1st. It is a celebration of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of workers.
In the USA, this day was promoted by the Central Labor Union and the Knights of Labor, who organized the first parade in New York City

In Canada you get paid for every holiday that falls on a day of the week that you would have worked otherwise. Got paid for 'family day' or something a few weeks ago lmao.

I guess I get paid for today too. Couldn't care less though, made 5x what I normally earn in a typical day.

I like the day off. It allows me to superficially increase my $/hour for the week. And gives me an extra 8 hours to do whatever the hell I want.
Like work on my own business.
