Hey guys, hope I can have some light shed on my new idea. So I have an idea for a website or more like I've found a need for a website. there is something similar that exists but it just doesn't do a good job. this would be for the canadian market. I'm not selling any goods at all its just helping a buyer connect with a seller and the buyers would probably want to remain anonymous until they meet the seller.
I think if I market the website properly I should easily get about 1000 new visits a day. How does one turn this into something profitable? Would my income come from the ad space? I clearly have never built any websites although for the last 5 years while cruising along in my slowlane I have had plenty of ideas just never converted them into anything. I need to jump out of the slowlane and try out a few things here. I don't think I am completely in the slowlane but my need for instant gratification on material goods has kept me in it for the majority of the time that I could and should have been executing on fastlane ideas.
So a few things
1) How do I start to build this website? Should I buy the domain from godaddy and then use one of their template building programs?
2) The site would be very similar to autotrader except it isn't selling cars. I want people to be able to narrow down their searches based on different criteria. Also be able to post reviews about seller but the reviews need to be linked to a profile so we can avoid people trying to sabotage others
3) I would like a "forum" aspect to it
4) The domain I found the .com version is already being used. I am mainly targeting to canadians do you guys think .ca is okay or should I find a different domain where I can purchase both .com and .ca
5) Things like SEO I am not familar with. At the same time I don't know how "great" of an idea this is and it may just flop so I want my cash outlay to be as little as possible. Any cost saving suggestions? I have plenty of time to work on it I don't mind putting in the work but if I just don't know what I'm doing its pointless.
6) The initial sellers on this site I am going to have to basically cold call and ask them to advertise on my website. I will probably offer them a free profile of sorts I can set up and I don't think they would mind free advertisement. Overtime I will charge a fee for the same people to advertise on my website.
Thoughts on all of this? I have always been thinking of ideas for the web and seen some ideas come to life and owners of those websites turning into millionaires. I've always brushed it off as I don't even know where to begin. Going to change these things around. This website I think overtime would turn into a canada wide website although I am going to start in just Vancouver.
PS..great book MJ.
Thanks in advance!
