Hey Fastlane forum members! I recently turned 22. I've been interested in entrepreneurship for a while now; however, most of what I've done for the past few years has been pure mental masturbation. I have to put it out there because this is my starting point for documenting my journey on the forum. I plan on making my posts here the progression of my journey.
So far, I've done quite a few things, but barely made any of them work because I was never sold 100% on what I was doing. That coupled with imposter syndrome and low self-esteem made everything I do impossible to grow.
For the past few years, I've been bouncing between starting something, bullshit around, give up, go play some video games, and build something up again when I get bored of wasting my time. I've jumped around so many times that I started to hate to see the person I was when I looked in the mirror. All I saw was a quitter.
1) started an Instagram page for fitness but thought I was too small to post(18 yr old)
2) started a digital marketing agency but was too afraid to cold call so I quit(19 yr old)
3) started a YouTube channel but had crippling self-doubt so I quit (20 yr old)
4) started another YouTube channel but ended up quitting again (21 yr old)
So for a while now, I decided to get my shit together and conquer my demons. The worst thing for me was putting myself out there into the world and getting told: "f*ck off". So I signed up for a sales job as a telemarketer. After being there for a few months now and getting told "f*ck off" almost every day, I've become pretty assured in myself, mostly because I see that 1) you could get run over by a bus tomorrow and no one would care and 2) it's up to you to make something happen and 3) if you want something you better get to work.
For my current plans, I'm going to start a home service business, mostly just gutter and roof cleaning. It's a low barrier to entry and all it needs is a hardened mindset and a willingness to knock on doors(at the beginning!). I already bought the ladder rack, straps, and roof climbing boots. I'm about to quit my job to go all in on the hustle.
My plan is to do D2D as I get some early customers. I'll do my first one or two jobs for free to gather testimonials, get use to the gears(climbing the ladder and stuff), and leverage those first few customers to get some paid ones.
My gear won't arrive till next week, so I might just start door-knocking this Saturday and schedule their cleaning for sometime next week.
Is anyone doing something similar?
