Hey guys,
My name is Mike, I have been a reader for a couple months now and just recently i have embarked on my own journey to get on my fastlane. I am from a small town just outside Calgary Alberta up here in Canada. I don't want to write my life story so i will try to keep it somewhat brief....
After high school i attended a post secondary institution to peruse a career in Mechanical Engineering. After my first two semesters i realized that it was not for me and in the spring of 2008 i left the school. For a couple months i worked for my (ex) girlfriends father doing landscape while i attempted to secure a job in the oil and gas sector. I soon realized i do not want to be doing manual labor for my whole life. In the summer, a few weeks before i turned 19 i landed a position with a MWD company. For those who don't know, MWD is "measurement while drilling" and is essentially monitoring of oil rig down hole tools which allow directional drillers to steer the drill string towards gas wells beneath the earth. Anyhow, because of the recession, the demand of oil has gone way down(obviously) and we eventually ended up with no work. On February 27, 09 I was laid off but with the possibility to return when the market recovers.
After i was laid off, i began thinking of the possibilities i have available to me. I had a few options, however the entrepreneur in me was telling me i needed to create something on my own. After speaking with a good friend of mine i learned about a great business opportunity right in my own town. Its a very niche market and as of today there is no one offering the service in town. It is essentially an in town/ same day courier service. Very little startup cost (<$500) and i already have my own vehicle, which is payed off. I estimate the first month or two will not be too profitable but i see potential for substantial growth withing the first year. I have little to no business experience so this will be a huge learning experience for me. I am going to try to write a blog and track my progress in this venture.
Basically as of today, i have a business plan, price lists and within the next few days i will be looking into a business license/insurance etc. Also, my client base includes a number of law firms and a florist right now.My official Start day is tommarow and i am very excited!
I must send my gratitude out to MJ and other contributing member as they have been a huge influence in my decision to embark on this venture.
Thanks for reading!
