Hello, Fastlaners
I think it's time to introduce myself since I have been lurking around the forum for months.
And first of all, I want to thank MJ for two excellent books and this forum, also thank everyone who brings value to this forum. I feel like the knowledge I have learnt from this forum in past few months are more than I learnt from university in 6 years.
Since English is not my native language, I will keep it short and try my best to introduce myself.
Background
I'm from Korea, I have been living a normal life for 30 years, never been an good student, but I have done my best to not let my parents down. I got MS degree in CS two years ago, and also got a good money job, and I thought my dream has come true because I always wanted to become a programmer especially in computer security field.
But after a few months of work, I just feel like something isn't right, I don't like the office life, I don't like to waste two hours on commute everyday(the subway is like hell in commuting time), that's when I started to thinking about make something by myself.
One day when I was chatting with one of my best friends in uni about money, realized we both want to make some quick money, and he already got an idea(something in porn industry). We immediately started to take action, I make website, and he got market research and other stuff. But after a few months, we didn't really make too much progress, the website I made just has some basic functions working, and we didn't even talk too much about the project during the time(he was busy doing day job, and so was I, I also married last year). So I thought the failure of the project is because lack of time and communication. Now, I realized that I was the big problem because I wanted to code the website line by line(using python flask) when I can just buy a wordpress theme and launch the website in few weeks(which was his intention, but we didn't talk about this too much).
During that time, my wife got pregnant, and my mind has been changed, I didn't want to deal with the porn industry anymore, because I'm going to be a father. That's when I saw MJ's book in bookstore(I usually go to bookstore for programming book, and it was the first time I was attracted by a business?self-improve?whatever book), I bought the book immediately after I read a few pages, and I think it was the most important decision I have ever made in my life. It was really a perfect timing to read a book like this, read the book makes me so clear about what I want is, and how to achieve what I want. Thanks MJ again for the book!
What I've done past few months
First few weeks on the forum, I was like 'Oh I should learn copywriting!!' when I saw Lex's threads, and 'Oh no, I have to do websites business!' when I saw Fox's threads. I also wanted to do e-commerce business, do this, do that, jumping from one idea to another, but never start doing one thing. And always thinking about when to quit my job, while my wife was pregnant (so f***ing stupid)
And after some action faking, I started to thinking that I have to stick on one thing, one thing I could do consistently, and I thought it would be programming. I remember that I have had a mobile game idea when I was in university, but never did it, so I decided to make this game come true. I never thought about become a fastlane by this one single mobile game, I just really wanted to make my first step, see if I can do something consistently.
Since then, my daily routine was like this
1. wake up 6am, eat, shit and go to the gym, workout for one hour(I was doing this before I read the book)
2. go to 9-6 job (yes, here in Korea is 9-6)
3. go home, have dinner with my wife, talk with her for some time, and working on my project 2-3 hours
4. I always tried to work few hours in weekend, sometimes did more, sometimes less
5. repeat
I couldn't say that I was stick on this routine every single day, but I did my best, and finally had some results last month. I launched my first mobile game to the App Store last month, and more excited thing is that my daughter has also born last month, I just can't express all my emotions properly in English, I feel like it's all worth it when I see her smile.
(the point I want to make here is still the launch of my game^^)
What to do next
I think I'm going to take some rest for weeks, give all my time to my wife and daughter, we are having a tough time since raising a child is way difficult than we thought..
Also I'll think about what to do next, it probably would be websites business. looks like action faking because I'm jumping to another idea, but I'm not, I would like to explain more on next post, and I'll make a execution thread next time.
