Hi Fastlaners,
I'm Andrew. Nice to meet you! I hale from Denver in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. I finally decided to join up and get connected with a community of like-minded people looking to test their personal limits, redefine the world as they want to see it, and add value to peoples' lives around the world.
I guess this is where the "who am I?" goes. Well, I am and have been a lot of things. I used to be a bike repair technician, food server, tech sales guru, U.S. Air Force cadet, and police officer. I am a born-again Christian, cancer survivor, body builder, web developer, and e-commerce newbie.
My Background:
Demarco eloquently pointed out that there is no perfect time to start a business. I decided that this year was a good a time as any for just that! I left my old "job" after 7 years in law enforcement to pursue web development, branding, and e-commerce. I know... I know... people don't like COPS! I've probably heard every doughnut joke out there too haha. It used to be a good career once upon a time, but with today's media influences, government created problems, and general degradation of society, it wasn't where I wanted to be anymore. It also wasn't taking me to a place I wanted to go to. I hated drowning my work-related misery in gym sessions and videos games anyways.
So I filed for two LLCs and headed off to new ventures on the web! I was originally educated in criminal justice, accounting, and national security studies, so I had planned to go back to school for business related coursework. Then I decided that several years of school purgatory was probably a waste of time compared to self study. I found that I learned more in 1 month on my own that I did in 6 years of undergrad and grad school combined!
I found Demarco's book shortly after that, and here I am looking for new contacts and networking opportunities to brainstorm ideas and business models.
My Projects:
I am currently working on two LLCs (one in clothing design, and one in biodegradable plastic research and manufacturing) and several websites. What I've been able to pick up and learn has been eye opening for me since I wasn't really educated in business or computer science at all.
My current projects:
- Drafting and improving product design
- Developing brands and copyrighting
- Sourcing importing and manufacturing
- Investigating the best practices for E-commerce (outside of amazon prime and ebay)
My end game goal and dream is to create a company paired with a nonprofit. I envision this as a company that develops brands off of the TOMS model of "one for one." For every item sold, a similar item would be given to a personal in need. I am still researching the sustainability of this venture on a large-scale and finding the right niche.
I look forward to getting to know all of you and becoming part of the fastlane community!
