Hey everyone, I just finished reading the book and it's probably the best books I've ever read. To be honest I skipped over it a few times at the bookstore because of the Lambo on the front cover, I figured it was just like all of the other books that I've read but fortunately I was wrong.
To give some background on me I work for one of the world's top consulting firms and joined right out of college a few years ago. I've made a very good name for myself there but it's not what I want out of life. I sit at work thinking how I spend more time working than doing anything else. Doing something that doesn’t really matter. I’m one employee out of 200k, who gives a shit what I do? I think about how the guy who invented the Snuggie is sitting on a beach somewhere and I’m stuck in cubicle land for the next 40 years.
I had a good chunk of time off recently and it gave me some time to think. Normally when I take time off I spend it trying to come up with some affiliate website or something, but this time I actually just chilled out and tried to figure out what I want to do with my life. I really needed something to inspire me after sitting around day after day at home. After 4 weeks of going to the gym, playing video games, investigating stocks and wrestling with my dog, nothing had hit me.
I’m getting married this spring so my fiancée and I went to the bookstore to get some info on honeymoon destinations on the last day of my vacation. I couldn’t resist swinging by the business books section though when we were there to see if something would jump out at me. I saw the book with the Lamborghini on the cover and I’ll be honest didn’t pick it up. After looking for a while I didn’t get anything except annoyed at the fact that other people are millionaires and I’m not.
The next day I went on amazon looking for inspiration and finally read the first chapter of the “Lamborghini†book. It was actually damn good. I think in the past when I looked for business and millionaire type books I expected to open one and see a check for a million dollars. This didn’t have that, but it was close. This is probably the fastest I've read a book since Goosebumps. I couldn’t put it down because for once it was like someone was reading my mind. It wasn’t feeding me BS like how Goofus spends his money on his BMW, while Gallant invests his money wisely. All other investing and millionaire books previously told me to invest in real estate, compound interest, 401ks and all that. I already have a house, 401k and save my money, but I’m not a millionaire. And having a million dollars in the bank but driving a ‘98 Jetta is not exactly what I had in mind.
I think the thing that hit me first was MJ’s perspective on wealth and passion. “Do what you love†– that stupid phrase was all that I could think about day after day. WTF do I love? I love my dog, should I do doggy daycare? I love working out, should I be a personal trainer? I like houses, should I be a real estate agent? Mmm, this cookie is delicious, I should open a bakery.
As I read the book I realized that love and passion are different things and what it really means to be wealthy “Wealth is the ability to fully experience lifeâ€. I realized I had passion and a lot of it. That’s why in the past I always spent vacations starting websites. I have tons of passions - to be wealthy, free, own my time, prove that I can do this, to wake up when I want to, wrestle with my dog whenever I feel like it.
After reading this book I felt rejuvenated again – aside from just inspiring me there are some great business tools and lessons, for me especially chapter 30.
I can go on and on but I won’t, I’ll just say thanks to MJ for writing this book and his story, this is the start of mine. And sorry for the long post, but I just want to get this down somewhere. I’ll be posting some of my ideas in the forum as well to get some feedback.
