I have an idea going on in my head the last few days to start a clothing brand. If anyone would like to give some tips on the big roadblocks I will encounter that would be great. I will tell you my idea and see if it makes sense...
Clothing brand to sell online on amazon and hopefully ASOS once I have amazon all sorted.
I would like to start with one product and slowly add more
First product would be a t-shirt
USP - Organic Cotton and top quality 240gsm
Design - Im going to keep it totally plain t-shirt with small logo and other small branding, i hate t-shirts full of pictures and stuff. Its gonna be classy!
Roadblocks:
1. I'm going against major players with big budgets and big brands
It will be hard to go against the big surf brands, and a million others too. The problem I have had in last few years is that the quality of these big brands have gone down and the prices are high, The plan will be a better quality tee for slightly cheaper price of around $25. Im hoping the organic cotton prices will give me enough margin to sell at this price, will also go for 240gsm instead of the typical 180gsm.
2. Find great manufacturer
If you get the right product at the right price then your life will be 100x easier, luckily this is the part that takes time and not a lot of money. Im shooting off emails as we speak.
3. Get a great brand design
Apart from the actual product, this is the second important thing. Need a great logo that can be embroidered onto the tee. Think of ralph lauren, jack wills, tommy, fred perry + others. I am leaning towards an animal of some sort as they are very popular. I also need designs and tagline for the patch i want on the bottom left of the tee (you see these on the high end stuff) and on the inside neck area. I'm wanting to brand this like a $40 t-shirt but selling for just $25, probably rrp $40 and then putting it on discount semi permanently (within the law)
Anyone started a clothing brand I would love to hear from you, anyone else I would love to hear your comments and questions too!
