I thought this would be an appropriate sub-forum to post this under since it involves my parents and my relationship with them...ish

So anyways, I'm seeking advice about wether or not this would be a good idea:
My mom asked me to help her get my parents' business back on its feet, since it has been getting smaller and smaller with less and less income ever since my sister and I were born. This is due to the fact that, even though my dad technically owns the business, he really just doesn't know how to run a business (nor does he have the passion to). Therefore, the reason the business has been declining is that my mom was pretty much the person that was (still is) running the business herself, my dad just does the minimum. So having kids took a lot of her time away from work.
My dad is kinda like a really lazy employee (He has been trying to get a website running since 1996...it still hasn't happened). But we can't take over because he is the only person with the necessary education and degrees to do what the business is currently offering (medical profession). But he does, in fact, have many possible USPs and he has also invented many really useful and great products that he could sell to other practitioners as well as his own patients. But he hasn't tried...
I really feel like their business has some serious potential to not only grow and make money, but to really help people. For example, my dad also used to do seminars. His seminars would fill beyond the limit of fire regulations with around 2000 people with standing room only. Practitioners from multiple different medical fields would come from countries around the world, just to hear what he had to say. He knows about multiple breakthrough advances for the medical fields that only a handful of people know about because him and his father are the ones who discovered them. And yet, he has never persued the possibility of growing his business and spreading the knowledge.
So, I had the idea that their business could ultimately be expanded to a company, with locations across the country, that could provide the service of some of the best medical practitioners in the country, or even the world.
But, that might be slightly far fetched? (Crazy, even?) If so, my mom does like the idea of making it Fastlane, separating it from her personal time, growing it, and then selling it for my parents' retirement. I thought that was also a pretty good idea.
I think that this could be a great learning experience for me!
