I am looking for process suggestions on a website idea that I have.
I am at the stage where I wish to prototype the idea and get it out there to see if it works. I saw a thread about programming where people were suggesting that learning it was a waste of time, yet I have no funds to pay someone else to do this for me and I wish to be strongly in command of the business.
I decided to start learning Python because it is a very readable language which is supposed to be easy to learn, with the plan to use the Django framework to build the website for rapid development. From there I would learn the front end technologies like HTML5, Javascript and CSS4 to get the prototype out there.
This is my plan, please advise:
Learn Python basics.
Learn Django basics.
Learn HTML, CSS, Javascript basics.
Starting building the site and learn the advanced skills required for each task as I go along.
Learn SEO and marketing and implement.
Release the site.
Redevelop, expand, market.
Take on a dev team to rebuild or enhance the site, concentrate on running the business.
Time wise I am working around 40 hours plus commuting time. Should I try and move into contracting and work part time as at the moment the only time I have is 2 hours in the early morning before work 2-3 days per week plus the weekends.
I am a system admin, so am comfortable with technologies if that makes a difference, although have limited programming knowledge.
I greatly appreciate any advice from people that have made some of these decisions and which they recommend.
