Hey Guys,
This will blow some of your minds, but some of the more people who get it will understand.
College will fail.
That statement will send most of Americas population into a livid frenzy, I've seen it happen before on many occasions.
Have you ever heard of MOOCS? Not saying these are the end all be all, but just for your thought.
Massive Open Online Courses
Take a look at this, straight off of Stanford University's website.
("SEE" stands for Stanford Engineering Everywhere; a MOOC run by Stanford)

[h=3]2. Will I receive credit for taking courses through SEE?[/h]No. Although SEE courses are identical to those taken by Stanford students, you will not receive Stanford credit.

Wait... What???
So basically, what you are telling me is that I can learn a very good chunk of the super secret, information that all of these elite stanford students are learning, but the only difference is they are paying so they get a certificate.
Doesn't exactly make sense does it?
That's just one thing to think about.
In order to make sure this post doesn't get too long, let me tell you this. The "Smartphone" and "Social Networking" generation will see a very drastic change in the education and college systems in their lifetimes.
What happened when elementary school wasn't enough? We got High School
What happened when High School wasn't enough? EVERYONE started going to college.
Well guess what's not enough now?
So what does this call for now? Will everyone just have to start going for their Masters and PHd's?
It's already happening.
But there is a MAJOR player in the game this time that has never been there before.
It's that screen that you're staring at right now. The internet.
And I don't mean using the internet just for education purposes. It is simply because business moves too fast now. It changes everyday.
Do you think this is it though?
Trust me when I say that within the next 10-20 years (That's being modest too, probably sooner) there is going to be yet another very fast acceleration in the way our world works.
In other words, in Many many fields the BS that you learned 1 year or 6 months ago, will be pretty useless unless you keep up. Let alone stuff you learned 4 years ago.
If I had an hour to talk to you in person, this would probably make a ton more sense. But pretty much, I believe that there will be a huge recession in the number of people attending college. It makes less and less sense everyday. It will still be there for certain professions like doctors, physicists, mathematicians etc. But it will change a lot otherwise.
I probably neglected some huge chunk of something and some angry forum user will come along and tear me apart, but I do think it is good for some people to hear a good different point of view on this.
