Hey there, it's me. My name's Marshall Stevenson and I hail from the Great White North; otherwise known as Canada. Amongst other sites I own Ramblings from SEO, web developer, designer & entrepreneur Marshall Stevenson . I heard about this forum while listening to a recent podcast from Pat Flynn over at Passive Income: The Smart Passive Income Blog - and if you haven't taken a listen, be sure to do so.
My history is just that, history. I've made mistakes and am trying to learn from them. My goal isn't to get rich (though it'd be nice). Simply, my goal is to be wealthy. Lots of time to spend with my family (a growing daughter who is almost 3 & her hot mama), take some vacations and to just not have to worry about life and finances.
I was let go the beginning of March from a company that I'd been at for almost 7.5 years. I saw it coming but wasn't concerned. I wanted to give this self generating income idea a go. Well during the process I found out some things about people in my family (both the hot mama and others) about 'traditional' thoughts of work. So here I am at the end of April, and almost 2 weeks into a new job. It's a contract position, so I maintain many of the same benefits as a small business owner (i.e. being able to 'write things off' as needed). But I've found myself the last few days on the morning public transit commute comparing myself to a sardine and I just can't shake the feeling. I enjoy the job/work and the people I work with, it's just the commute and trading of my time for money.
I've made some money on affiliate marketing in the past on sites like website design software | Adobe Creative Suite 5 family amongst others, I just haven't focused the efforts properly. Now that I'm back to the "9-to-5 grind" I find myself longing for the freedom that additional income would provide. While I happen to be on the sidewalk right now, I'm pretty close to the curb and am getting set to strap myself in for a car ride. The hardest part will be keeping the 9-5, a family and myself happy all at once.
So there, I put it down on screen. Even if it is relatively 'private' it's still out there to see. I'm hoping that I can help share some of my wisdom here on SEO, Wordpress, Internet Marketing and creative design, so if you have questions, please feel free to ask me. I've done web design since 1995 and the rest I've picked up along the way. I'll do my best to be a contributing member of this community so long as you agree to do the same.
As for what I expect from here, I'm not entirely sure yet. I've been fortunate enough to have a few mind shifts over the last few days/weeks and am hoping to find some more clarity and perhaps some more inspiration. Some awesome people to connect with to really help drive and push me through my journey out to the other side. My contract is for a year and though it's likely to be renewed (yes, 11.5 months away I know this already), I want to be able to say "that's OK" if they don't renew and know that my family is taken care of.
That's me in a nutshell, so ask away. Hopefully I've revealed a little bit about me in this post.
