Hi all,
It’s great to be here and I can’t wait to explore the forum. Though my IP lists me as being in Phoenix Arizona (kinda ironic), I am actually in a small town in Pa which is near good ole historical Gettysburg (I was doing some keyword research using a proxy so I didn’t tick off almighty Google and didn’t realize I was still using it).
Anyway, I started out as a hairdresser and decided to go the ‘successful’ route and turned myself into a walking zombie by going back to college full time when my kids were young.
I made it through doing my internship at the college as a web designer (which was my career goal) but was offered a job before graduating. Not knowing any better I jumped on the job and found myself disillusioned with the pay rate.
After two years I gave up the job and worked on my own web design business until I was offered another job making 3 times as much as my previous job. Once again I made the mistake of jumping on it.
I worked for 2 more years, during which my dad was sick with cancer and passed away. (I kept working during this time and was driving an hour each way to help my mom.)
After my dad passed I continued I put in more and more hours at work, sometimes up to 70 hours a week since we were buying a house and needed the down money. At this point I had worked past my 2 year limit as a contractor and had to either be hired as an employee or leave. The offer that was made to my consisted of a 35% cut in pay! When I decided that it couldn’t hurt to see if I could be hired at a pay rate a little higher than they were offering (they did after all contact me to hire me in the first place and I had experience), I was seen as being greedy and the job offer was taken off the table and I was laid off (this was from an alcoholic boss who left work every day at lunch to hang at the bars).
I decided that I was tired of busting my butt just to be accused of being greedy….(God knows how I loved working 7 days a week and coming in at 5am on Sat and Sun!) So I decided to turn back to my web design business and that is where I am at today.
I love the business but my skills are now lacking since I didn’t have the time to keep up with the technological advances that took place while I was working 70 hours a week. And once again, while I do love the business I can see the potential to be tied to a business that consumes all my time.
So I am here to expand on this business venture while exploring other opportunities available.
Thanks for hanging in there for this long intro. I am off to troll the forums now.
