Hi guys,
I am from the european union and am a young software engineer.
I have already published udemy courses as part of my fastlane journey. Am making on average about 200 eur each month from that and I also have a a software engineering job for 3 years.
I will be starting to study my masters this september. So right now my plan of action is like this:
1. Continue making atleast one video per day and work on my course business (not necessarilly udemy, it is just a good platform because I don't need to do marketing myself)
2. Make at least one 4.5+ rated course (currently have one over 4 stars so it is coming along)
3. Adapt one of my courses into a book ( Will try to make the book as good as possible but it really doesn't matter how much it sells. Idea is to establish authority)
4. Finish my masters and start doing some coursework for my university (1-2 lectures per week around 4-5 hours per week).
So my plan is to try to get a best selling course on udemy or on my own platform. (Possible to make in the millions if you have a couple of such courses).
Idea is: Graduate degree + a lot of work experience + Course/Book author + lecturer at university = expert = $$$ consulting or doing workshops/ corporate training.
There are a lot of companies in the EU which are willing to pay a lot of money for training for tech certifications or AI training. Also EU itself gives a lot of funding to tech companies for continued education, qualification programmes because it believes that tech is really important for europes economy. I have seen people charging 1k per person attending corporate training on technical subjects.
My only issue with online courses and online education in general is that it seems like a race to the bottom since there are already so many courses for free and the barriers of entry are so low.
However, my thinking goes that worst case I make some side money and also put the courses on my resume and get a better job. Also the corporate training / tech certification space doesn't seem so swamped since the barries to entry are much higher (need to know your stuff, need to have authority, need to not be afraid of publicly presenting in front of 20+ strangers). So seems like a great opportunity, what do you guys think about my plan and ideas? Curious to hear your thoughts and also what do you think regarding the online education or corporate training/ certification market?
Regards,
Zealander.
