I just got around to reading the FAQs and apparently I was supposed to have done this intro post first. Oops!
I found this forum a few years ago when researching entrepreneurship, but forgot about it until now. I read comments about some book called The Millionaire Fastlane and thought I would check it out. Absolutely mindblowing - its like MJ pulled together all the thoughts and observations I have had in the last few months/years into one book AND plugged holes in my thinking. This, coupled with The Success Principles that I also just finished reading whilst on vacation, have been very powerful motivators. I've always had a lot of ideas (pawns), but needed ways to assess opportunity and the mental courage to execute; these two books in tandem have helped sharpen my focus and path immensely.
Some background on me: I am an American who quit corporate America and moved to the UK with my European partner. While looking to get resettled, I have felt decidedly indifferent to my current career path and the process of going back to the grind for someone else - job search stupidity, management shortsightedness, low raises, stress, politics. I was always the square peg in the round hole because I was skeptical and cynical of the slowlane that everyone else around me seemed to buy into. My great uncle was a fastlaner who built and sold a business for $$ in the 70s. My father built a business by identifying a need and filling it and sold it in the early 90s for the money to further his real passion in life. I look up to both of them as strong role models, and want that type of success (and beyond) for myself and my family. Another job, or even private consulting, isn't gonna do it.
My skills are all in business planning, strategy, and competitive analysis and I have helped businesses of all sizes in the past to expand, realign, or fix themselves. I've done new product development and "innovation" exercises that were anything but nimble, exciting, or supportive of customer needs. Time to do and learn new things and challenge myself with taking it all from A to Z.
Excited to be a new member of the forum, and lending my expertise and thoughts to others!
